Frequently Asked Questions

What is CARH? CARH stands for Central Arkansas Homeschoolers

When was this group created? Our group was officially created on Feb. 22, 2008.

Is there a fee to join? At this time, CARH charges no membership fees.

Who runs the group? CARH is run by a board comprised of homeschool moms.  The board members can’t run the group by themselves though. Fortunately CARH is blessed to have a highly active general membership that consistently organizes activities and volunteers their time to answer others’ questions on the Yahoo Group.

How does CARH distribute information to its members? A private Yahoo Group serves as the primary means of communication among members. Through the Yahoo Group, all members have access to: a calendar of events, a place to share weblinks, a files section, a database listing of our members, and a photo area with family and activity albums.  Members provide encouragement and share special news on our Yahoo Group.

What if I don't have an email address? To be a Yahoo Group member, Yahoo requires you to set up an ID and password.  Yahoo will then provide a free email account that is (your Yahoo ID)@yahoo.com.  You do not have to use it if you already have an email address through another provider.

What types of activities does CARH offer? CARH activities are driven by the general membership, so any member can plan an activity of their choice.  We currently have a weekly co-op, 4H club, bible study for moms, weekly teen events, end-of-year party and curriculum sale, among other events and activities. All ideas are welcome!

Does CARH offer anything for children besides activities?  A separate members-only Yahoo Group has been created just for CARH children that is moderated by an adult.   Children can visit and share with each other, just like the parents do on the main Yahoo Group.

Do I have to coordinate activities? No member is required to plan activities, but we highly recommend that everyone help plan something at least one time a year. CARH is able to offer an incredible diversity of educational and social experiences because of the many motivated members.

Does CARH have any rules or policies? We have one simple rule: Play nice! We expect everyone to treat each other with love and kindness at all times.

What happens if someone isn't “playing nice”?  Each member involved in the situation is encouraged to work out their differences amongst themselves.  If that proves unsuccessful, concerned members may contact the board for assistance.  The board will handle each situation on a case-by-case basis.  The board reserves the right to moderate a member’s Yahoo Group postings if there are continual problems.  The member will be warned to stop their inappropriateness.  If the problem continues, then that member will be banned from the group.  Thank you for helping keep CARH a safe and supportive community for all!

Can families who enroll their children in the Arkansas Virtual Academy become members of CARH? Yes

I'm considering homeschooling my children. Can I join CARH or get assistance from CARH? Potential home school families may contact CARH board members to ask questions about homeschooling. The board wishes to assist families in making the best educational decision for their children. In order to join CARH, a family must be currently homeschooling or have the intention to home school their child.

Can I join the CARH Yahoo Group before submitting my “intent to homeschool” form to the school district or registering with the virtual academy?  The CARH Yahoo Group is open to families who have made the decision to homeschool, even if they haven’t submitted the appropriate paperwork to the school district.

Can I attend a CARH activity before joining to see if it's the right fit for my family? CARH offers certain activities, like monthly roller skating, which are open to guests.  Contact us for a calendar of events.

Where do I sign up?  Please click on the Yahoo Groups “join now” button on bottom of the home page, and it will route you to our Yahoo Group home page.  From there, click on the button labeled "join this group".  If you don’t already have a Yahoo ID, Yahoo will send out a form which takes you through the steps to create an ID and password.  Then you should receive a message from us with a general information form. Fill out the general information form, and send it to CARHBoard@yahoo.com . It's that easy!
